On Sunday 7th June, 2009 Britannia hosted the 5th Britannia Hardbat Tournament.

The morning started with 4 groups of 4:- 

Group 1 contained Fred Dove (seeded 1), Gary Young, Mark Lewis and Brian Amos. Unsurprisingly Fred Dove went through without loss, although Mark pushed him to 21-19 in the third. Gary went through as runner up, losing only to Fred. Mark finished third, and Brian fourth.

Group 2 contained Kevin James (seeded 3), Nigel Hodder, Michael Wright and Sonja Talbot. Again the group went according to the seeding with Kevin winning all 3 of his games without loss. Nigel went through as runner up losing only to Kevin. Michael went through in third, with Sonja Fourth.

Group 3 contained Wayne Shaw (seeded 2), Andy Holmes, Ken Lewis and Sean Gridley. Again, this group went with the seedings with Wayne going through without dropping a set, Andy second, Ken third and Sean fourth.

Group 4 was the most clean cut group, with all games being decided 2 straight. Andy Warner (seeded 4) went through as group winner, Andy Dosher runner up, Jason Annal third and Bob Jennings fourth.

In the afternoon, the top two from each group went through to the top half, third and fourth into the bottom half. Each player then played a further three games to decide final placings. 

1st and 2nd place was Fred Dove (1) playing Andy Warner (4). In a fluctuating match with both players showing some excellent attacking and defending, Fred just piped Andy, emerging as the winner after three very hard fought games making him the only player to lift the trophy twice 17-21, 21-19, 21-15

3rd and 4th place was Wayne Shaw (2) playing Kevin James(3), Wayne winning 17-21, 21-13, 21-15

5th and 6th place was Andy Holmes playing Andy Dosher, Andy Dosher winning in two extremely close games 21-19, 30-28(!)

7th and 8th place was Gary Young playing Nigel Hodder, Nigel winning in two 21-15, 22-20

9th and 10th place was Mark Lewis playing Michael Wright, Mark winning 23-21, 21-17

11th and 12th place was Brian Amos playing Sonja Talbot, Sonja winning in three tight games 20-22, 21-19, 21-15

13th and 14th place was Jason Annal playing Ken Lewis, Ken winning 21-14, 22-20

15th and 16th place was Sean Gridley playing Bob Jenning, with Bob winning the wooden spoon going down in three close games to Sean 21-13, 20-22, 19-21
