Weekend Four Report :

2011/12

2010/11

The final round of this seasons British League took place over the weekend of 19th.&20th.February'2011,  at St.Neots.

Saturday - - a great start in the morning with a superb win against York Gardens, despite an off form Gary struggling with a cold. Andy won 2, Aimee 1, and Ian secured the match winning 2.

This was followed up in the afternoon with a hard earned draw when Hastings staged a comeback from 1-3 down to lead the match 4-3.

Gary continued to struggle, but with Andy, Aimee and Ian all winning their first games it appeared Britannia were in command. However, Andy was no match for Hastings number 1 going down 3 straight, and when Aimee similarly lost 3 straight to Hasting number 2, the match had been turned around.

Again it was Ian who secured the result taking his second win of the match comfortably 3 straight to win the final game needed for the draw, and him to end the day unbeaten.

3 points out of a possible 4 on day one !

Sunday - morning opponents Mossford, the current league leaders, were clearly out to gain promotion including two highly ranked England Women players in their squad, and although proving just too strong, Britannia didn’t go down without putting up a fight.

Gary can count himself a little unlucky to have lost to both Klaudia Sladkowska, England Women’s number 9, and Barbara Izyk, England Women’s number 39, both at game 9 in the fifth ends.

Paul similarly lost to Claudia in 5 ends, but Ian had more success, beating Barbara in 4.

Paul recorded Britannia’s other win beating Mossford’s number 3 in five, the same player having earlier beaten Ken comfortably 3 straight.

Ken’s other game against Mossford’s number 4 is certainly a game he will want to forget, loosing 1,2,4 !

So a 6-2 win for Mossford in a match which produced some superb table tennis played in a very sporting manner throughout.

Sunday afternoon against Bognor Regis was a reversal of the morning match result, this time 6-2 to Britannia.

2 wins each from Gary and Ian, and 1 win each from Paul and Ken ensured Britannia ending the 2010/11 British League season with a win. This result confirmed fourth spot in the league table, well clear of the remaining 4 teams.
